Kosh Naranek

Kosh was one of the most important figures in the Army of Light - he was most likely involved with it as early as in Valen's time, given that Lorien seemed to know him. Some time before the Earth-Minbari war Kosh and Ulkesh acted as liaisons between the Vorlons and the Minbari (or more precisely their leader Dukhat).

Nearly two decades later, when the inevitable war against the Shadows was only a few years away, Kosh was assigned to Babylon 5. He arrived in 2257 and immediately there was an attempt on his life. Commander Sinclair was framed for it, but in reality the attempt had been arranged by G'Kar and a group of Minbari. In the aftermath of the assassination attempt two people, Doctor Benjamin Kyle and Lyta Alexander saw Kosh outside his encountersuit. Both of them were almost immediately called back to Earth. Lyta, who had scanned Kosh, had made a special connection with him. She became so spell-bound by Kosh that she was even ready to risk her life trying to get to the Vorlon homeworld. Eventually Kosh took Lyta as his aide and had her 'enhanced' so that she would be able to carry pieces of his consciousness in her mind.

It wasn't until late 2259 that Kosh appeared in public without his encountersuit when saving Captain Sheridan who had fallen from the core-shuttle. All those who had witnessed this saw a being of light - be it Valeria, G'Lan, Droshalla or an angel - each according to his or her beliefs.

Sheridan, like Lyta developed a special relationship with Kosh. The mysterious ambassador hardly ever attended to council meetings before Sheridan arrived to Babylon 5 and already in early 2259 he contacted the captain through a dream. Some time later (but before his angelic manifestation) Kosh revealed to Sheridan the truth about Anna Sheridan's death and began teaching him how to 'fight the legends'.

When the Shadows began openly attack the younger races in 2260, Sheridan turned to Kosh for military assistance. At first Kosh refused, but Sheridan's persistence changed his mind. However, the Vorlon involvement was almost immediately revenged by Mr. Morden, whose associates killed Kosh. Still, not all of Kosh died - a piece of his consciousness moved to Sheridan's mind. Later that year, when Sheridan was trapped in Z'ha'dum, Kosh told him to jump into a deep abyss knowing that this would bring the Captain to Lorien.

After Lorien had brought Sheridan back from the dead, Kosh helped the Army of Light one more time by killing Ulkesh who had succeeded him as the Vorlon ambassador. Even this wasn't the last of Kosh - a year later, during the Brakiri day of the dead, he sent Sheridan a message ("When the long night comes, return to the end of the beginning") through Captain Lochley's dead friend Zoë.

Ulkesh

Ulkesh, like Kosh was most likely was involved with the Army of Light as early as Valen's time. It is certan, however, that he was involved some time before the Earth-Minbari war when he and Kosh both acted as liaisons between the Vorlons and the Minbari leader Dukhat.

After Kosh was killed by the Shadows in 2260 the Vorlons assigned Ulkesh to Babylon 5. In order to keep Kosh's death a secret Ulkesh demanded that he be called 'Kosh' even though he was very different from his predecessor. While Kosh had cared about the younger races, considered Ulkesh them to be nothing more than tools.

When the Vorlons began attacking other races in 2261 Captain Sheridan decided to guarantee the security of both Babylon 5 and the Army of Light by getting the Vorlon ambassador off the station and to do this he was prepared to use any means necessary. Ulkesh refused to leave peacefully and Sheridan, Kosh (or more precisely the piece of him that had been preserved in Sheridan's mind) and Lorien were forced to kill him.

Lorien

Wayne Alexander

Lorien

Lorien, whom Captain Sheridan found on Z'ha'dum, claimed to be not only one of the First Ones but the First One. His race had been immortal and the first race to become sentient, but as time went by all the other members of his race died of injury or illness leaving him alone. For thousands, maybe even millions of years he was alone on Z'ha'dum until Sheridan fell to his death while fleeing Shadows. Lorien gave a portion of his life to the Captain to resuurect him and then escorted him to Babylon 5 where he helped the Army of Light to kill Ulkesh, find the rest of the remaining First Ones and eventually win the war against the Vorlons and the Shadows.

When the last Shadow war ended Lorien led the rest of the First Ones beyond the Rim. He returned one more time in 2281 to take Sheridan - who by now had spent the twenty years Lorien had given him - beyond the Rim.

Tim Choate

Zathras and his brothers

A member of an unknown species the 110-year-old Zathras was in 2260 the oldest living caretaker of the Great Machine of Epsilon 3. He worked as an assistant to Draal (just as he had asssisted the Machine's previous 'heart' Varn) and helped in the maintenance of the Machine. He had studied the Machine for years and knew things which not even Draal knew.

In 2260 he helped the Army of Light move Babylon 4 thousand years into the past and, despite his brother's warnings, accompanied Jeff Sinclair to the past.

After Zathras travelled back in time, the Great Machine has been taken care of by his nine brothers Zathras, Zathras, Zathras, Zathras, Zathras, Zathras, Zathras, Zathras and Zathras (note the slight differences in pronunciation).

Dureena Nafeel

Carrie Dobro

Dureena Nafeel

Dureena's youth was no bed of roses as she was sold to slavery by her family. While staying in the slave-trade capital of Praxis 9, Dureena learned not only to serve, but also to survive and in the end she managed to escape. Unable or unwilling to return to her home planet, she was then trained a thief by Nafeek, a member of the Thieves Guild and became quite good in her profession.

In the end, isolation from her own race became Dureena's salvation. When the Shadows destroyed her homeplanet Zander in 2261, she was one of the few surviving members of her race.

Five years later Dureena travelled to Babylon 5 unaware that she was called there by the techno-mage Galen. On the station the mage contacted her through a dream - the same way he had contacted three other people, President Sheridan, Captain Anderson and a Drazi. It didn't take long for the two humans to find Dureena. She wasn't displeased - she had wanted to get her hands on Sheridan ever since he and his allies had failed to save Zander in 2261.

Dureena tried to kill Sheridan when they first met, but soon realised that Zander's destruction hadn't really been his fault. She too joined the battle against the Drakh and by the end of the short war that resulted the reason why Galen had contacted her was revealed - she thought like a thief and was thus able to find out where the control system of the death cloud, the greatest weapon the Drakh possessed, was situated. Following Dureena's advise Sheridan and Anderson destroyed the death cloud, but were unable to prevent the Drakh from infecting Earth with a biogenetic plague.

Destroying the death cloud wasn't enough for Dureena - she wanted revenge and decided to become a permanent member of the crew of the Excalibur, the ship assigned to find a cure for the plague. For a while the bureaucrats objected to having a criminal in the crew, but Captain Gideon, the new commander of the Excalibur, managed to persuade them into allowing her to stay.

N'Grath

One of the leading criminals of the Brown sector of Babylon 5, N'Grath controlled the darker corners of the station with an iron fist. He was involved with the black market, selling counterfeit identicards and other illegal products to anyone interested and willing to pay. The station personnel were aware of N'Grath's businesses, but were willing to turn a blind eye knowing that he would be replaced by someone else in an instant and that someone could be even more difficult to control.

N'Grath met his end under suspicious circumstances somewhere between 2258 and 2262.
