Q & A

There were 2 emperors of the Centari murdered during the series/movies. Who murdered each emperor?
Asked by Doug

Emperor Turhan, who met his fate in "The Coming of Shadows" was not murdered but died of natural causes, much toi the chagrin of G'Kar who had, in fact, been planning on assasinating him. Turhan's friend Prime Minister Malachi, on the other hand, was murdered by Lord Refa's associates after the Emperor's death. During season four Londo was planning on murdering Emperor Cartagia, but his plan almost failed when Cartagia in a fit of madness knocked the weapon from Londo's hand. Vir then picked up the poisoned blade and killed Cartagia. The Regent Emperor Verini also met a violent end in "The Fall of Centauri Prime" when the Drakh killed him in order to put Londo on the throne.

Is any film/series going to be made concerning the events of the "telepath war" - this is one exciting episode that has been missed out so far.
Asked by Susanne

Although there have been rumours about a movie on the Telepath War for as long as I can remember, nothing official has ever been said of it, and in my opinion a movie or a series is quite unlikely at the moment. There was a thetrical movie called The Memory of Shadows in the works until recently, but even that would have dealt with Galen and the Shadows rather than telepaths.

In which episode do Sheridan and Delenn have dinner?
Asked by MFM

Sheridan and Delenn had dinner several times during the series:

  • "A Race Through Dark Places": They meet in the open air restaurant, and Delenn is wearing the 'little black dress'.
  • "Confessions and Lamentations": Delenn invites Sheridan to her quarters for a ritualistic meal that lasts several hours. Sheridan falls asleep during the ceremony and is then called to take care of problems concerning the drafa plague.
  • "Sic Transit Virs": Sheridan cooks (or at least tries to cook) flarn for Delenn. The dinner is interrupted when Sheridan rushes out to help Vir and Lyndisty who are being attacked by a narn.

What can you tell me about Crusade episodes?
Asked by Laura

The best places for analysis and information on the episodes are Lurker's Guide and Worlds of JMS. The latter also has a detailed timeline of how and why the show got cancelled. Most likely we will never know what happened to Excalibur and its crew and how Earth was saved, but some of the story was brought to an end with Jeanne Cavelos' Techomage Trilogy. On a brighter note, according to JMS, Crusade will be released on DVD in the near future.

Is there a good printed explaination (or can you tell me) of JMS's original plans for the character of Sinclair. For example was there supposed to be a love interest between Sinclair and Delenn as there was between Sheridan and Delann? In other words, does anyone know where the story was gonna go if Michael O'Hare remained with the show?
Asked by Bruce

As far as I know, JMS has been pretty reluctant to tell much of anything about the 'alternative universes' where Sinclair or Ivanova never left the show. He has, however said on a few occasions that Sinclair would have been forced to the sidelines as unlike Sheridan (who was married to Anna), Sinclair wouldn't have had any real connection to the Shadows. And as for the Sinclair/Delenn romance, this is what JMS said about it on Usenet in 1995:
Actually, the relationship with Sinclair and Delenn wasn't designed to be romantic; he was involved with Sakai, and would've stayed that way for the most part. The relationship you saw is not quite what you're thinking; there is a closeness, but not based on romantic feelings. You'll catch a sense of what's behind this more later this season.
If you want to find out more about JMS's thoughts on Sinclair, I suggest browsing through his usenet messages over at JMSNews

As a B5 newbie, what is the best order to watch the series/TV movies in?
Asked by Steven

I think the best order is the one in the master episode list of the Lurker's Guide. There are few things that I would change in that ordering, though:

  1. I'd watch In the Beginning and River of Souls only after watching Sleeping in Light as ItB spoils the plot if watched before the show and RoS spoils the mood if wached before SiL
  2. I'd also watch Legend of Rangers: To Live and DIe in Starlight only after Crusade or at least after watching SiL
  3. My suggestion is that you don't watch War Zone at all but if you do, then it's best watched before Racing the Night (and forgotten immediately after)

The movie "In the Beginning" Sheridan was captured by the Minbari after the failed peace mission. Why didn't he have a "hole in his mind" for they had him before they captured Sinclair.
Asked by Keith

The reason why Sinclair had a 'hole' in his mind was that the Minbari had removed a part of his memories to keep him from remembering his incarceration/interrogation and the fact that the triluminary had 'recognised' him. With Sheridan, there was no need to remove memories and hence no hole in his mind.
