With the help of Lorien Captain Sheridan and Delenn then revealed the true motives of the First Ones to the younger races. As a result not only the Vorlons and the Shadows, but all of the First Ones (Lorien included) passed beyond the Rim. Mars

One of Earth's largest, oldest and most important colonies. The first permanent Mars colony was founded as early as in the mid-22nd century. Still, humans had not been the first sentient beings on Mars. The Shadows had visited Mars during their Great War a thousand years earlier and had left some of their ships there, buried deep under the Martian surface. These ships were discovered by humans in 2253, at the eve of the last Shadow War and the Earth Civil War.

Mars survived both the Dilgar War and the Earth-Minbari War unharmed, but the conflicts with Earth on the subject of independent Mars were a constant problem. Violence resulted in food riots and in the terrorist activity of the Free Mars movement. Still, the worst was to come when the Mars rebellion began in November 2258 with the members of Free Mars attacking the Mars provisional government. Earth's troops brought down the rebellion and for the next eighteen months the relations between the two planets were suspiciously peacefull.

April 8th 2260 President Clark started the Earth Civil War as he declared a martial law on all of Earth Alliance. The freedom fighters on Mars realised that their moment had come and Xavier Montoya, prime minister of the Martian provisional government, announced that Mars would not submit to the law. To make and example for the other colonies with similar intents, Clark then had several Martian cities bombed. This incident led to the secession of several other Earth Alliance colonies and outposts as a protest.

During the Civil War the Mars Resistance sided with Captain Sheridan after he promised the colony independence if Clark was impeached. Sheridan kept his promise and after the war the Interstellar Alliance forced Earth to grant Mars independence. Still, Earth wasn't going to give up that easily and continued to oppress Mars with red tape and bureaucracy.

There were about 2 million people living on Mars in 2261 (90% of them human). The cities include New Vegas and Slimtown.

Jeff Sinclair, Max Eilerson and Lise Hampton were born on Mars.

The capital is situated in the largest dome and is the only spaceport on the planet. Slavetrade is legal on Praxis 9 and there isn't much control over other contrabands either.

In mid-2261 Proxima was still more or less free, but President's Clarks forces had surrounded it and had brought the resistance close to surrender with the embargo. Fortunately in September Captain Sheridan and his forces arrived to Proxima and liberated it.
