Elizabeth Lochley

Born in 2217 to a family of soldiers, Lochley had a rough childhood in the shadow of her alcoholic father. As a teenager Lochley herself also succumbed into drugs and alcohol and eventually ran away from home. For a while she lived in a burned down hotel with her friend Zoë, but after Zoë killed herself by taking an overdose, Lochley came to her senses and returned home. She quit using drugs and joined EarthForce soon after.

In the academy Lochley met John Sheridan and the two were married soon after graduating from Officer Training School. Unfortunately the marriage didn't last more than a few months before they both fell tired of the constant arguing and filed for divorce.

During the next few years Lochley served in several places. In one post her subordinates were harassed by a rogue telepath and it was only Bester who was able to help them get rid of the menace.

In early 2262 Captain Lochley met Sheridan for the first time in years when he asked her to take command of Babylon 5. Lochley and Sheridan had fought on opposite sides during the Civil War, but Sheridan could still trust her, and this made Lochley the perfect candidate for the job that would symbolise the reunited humankind. Lochley received full authority in decisions concerning B5 while Sheridan maintained his right to intervene if the decision had something to do with the Interstellar Alliance. Sheridan tread on Lochley's toes almost immediately by allowing a group of telepaths form a colony on the station even though Lochley had decided against it. Their clash of opinions over the colony continued when Bester arrived demanding the telepaths to be turned over to the Psi Corps. Lochley owed a favour to Bester, but she was forced to play dirty as Sheridan demanded her to find a way to protect the telepaths from the Corps. Eventually Lochley managed to buy the telepaths 60 more days of freedom, providing that they didn't leave the station.

In the end Lochley was proved to be right about the telepaths. Before the sixty days had passed half of the telepaths had walled themselves into the Brown Sector while the other half terrorized the station. Sheridan was forced to take back his promise of protection and Lochley called Bester back, giving him full authority over the telepaths. Unfortunately Bester's help soon became a problem as Byron, the leader of the telepaths, and his followers refused to surrender before the Psi Cop representatives left. Together with Sheridan Lochley managed to make an agreement with the telepaths, but Bester turned the peaceful surrender into a bloodbath when Byron and a few other telepaths committed a suicide.

Lochley's first year as the commander of B5 was hectic not only because of the telepath problem, but also because of the war with the Centauri. Garibaldi's distrust of the new commander didn't help much either. When Garibaldi's drinking problem came into the open, Lochley gained his trust by revealing her own past and offering her help and support.

After Sheridan and Garibaldi - who had brought problems onto the station like a pair of lightning rods - left B5 in the end of 2262, Lochley assumed her life would finally get back to normal. It didn't take more than six months for Garibaldi to come back with chaos riding in with him. While solving the resulting problems with Soul Hunters, Lochley was seriously injured and almost died.

When the Drakh infected Earth with the biogenetic plague in 2266 Lochley too did her share to save her homeworld. She helped to organise a conference for scientists looking for the cure and offered Babylon 5's resources to Excalibur. It was during this co-operation that she met Captain Gideon and the two even had a short affair.

In the end, Lochley commanded B5 longer than the two previous commanders together.
