Lise Hampton(aka Lise Hampton-Edgars)Michael Garibaldi and Lise Hampton met in Mars and were together for a year before Garibaldi was offered a job as the chief of security on Babylon 5. He accepted the job, but she didn't want to leave her life and friends on Mars and so they broke up. Some time later Lise married a Terran called Franz and had his child in 2258. Only a few years later Lise found out that Franz was having an affair. She decided to divorce him, but he was faster and filed divorce first. Because of a biased judge Lise, a Mars born, was left with nothing and Franz was given the full custody of their daughter Deborah. Soon after her divorce, in early 2261, Lise met William Edgars, one of the richest men on Mars. The millionaire took Lise under his wings and eventually the two got married. Edgars owned pharmaceutical industries and while running an errand for him, Lise ended up on Babylon 5 where she met Garibaldi for the first time in years. Garibaldi had left his job as the chief of security and had been hired by Edgars' associates to act as her bodyguard. Although Edgars knew his wife and Garibaldi had a past together, he took the man on his payroll. The next time Lise and Garibaldi met was when Garibaldi arrived to Mars to meet Edgars. Soon after that Lise found out about her husband's sinister plans (he was planning to enslave all telepaths) and tried to talk Garibaldi into running away with her. Unfortunately Garibaldi had been brainwashed by the Psi Corps and didn't warm up to his ex-girlfriend's proposals. Lise then tried to escape Mars alone, but was captured by the Martian mafia who planned to hold her for ransom. At the same time Garibaldi was revealing Edgars' secrets to the Psi Corps who then had the millionaire killed. After Edgars' death Garibaldi regained control over his mind and actions, and rescued Lise from the hands of the mafia. The two got back together even though Lise had inherited Edgars Industries and had to remain on Mars while Garibaldi had duties on B5. During the next year Lise visited B5 every now and then trying to lure Garibaldi to come back to Mars with her. It was on one of these trips when she found out that her husband-to-be had once again succumbed into drinking. It didn't take long for Garibaldi's alcoholism to become general knowledge and eventually he was suspended from his job. His unemployment didn't bother Lise, though, because it enabled her to finally persuade him into returning to Mars. Huge wealth wasn't the only legacy Edgars had left behind - the board of directors of Edgars Industries had hired a contract killer to prevent Lise and Garibaldi from finding out about the black projects behind the seemingly humanitarian facade of the mega-corporation. The co-operation between the Martian politician Theresa Halloran and the crew of B5 prevented worst from happening, but in the chaos that followed a Narn trying to kill G'Kar accidentally shot Lise. Her injuries were serious, but she survived. While she was still in MedLab, Garibaldi proposed to her and then brought in a priest to perform the ceremony there and then. After returning to Mars Lise appointed Garibaldi as the president of Edgars-Industries. Both their marriage and their company - later renamed Edgars-Garibaldi Industries - prospered for at least the next twenty years. With Garibaldi Lise also had her second daughter, Mary. Byron GordonLike most telepaths, Byron too was raised by the Psi Corps. Because of the strength of his talents (he was a P12), he automatically joined the Psi Cops and during his training, he became the protégé of the legendary Psi Cop Bester. Byron was a dutiful pupil until one rogue hunt where Bester ordered him to kill a group of mundanes who had been smuggling telepaths. Reluctantly Byron did what he was told, but ran a away soon after the incident, swearing that he would never again resort to violence. Charismatic Byron soon became the leader of a group of rogues and in 2262 they all travelled to Babylon 5 to request sanctuary. Byron first contacted Captain Lochley who denied their request, but when one of Byron's followers, a teenage boy named Simon, died while saving President Sheridan's life, the president took the telepaths under his protection and gave them permission to form a colony on the station. Still, being allowed to stay on the station didn't make the telepaths' lives any easier. When Bester arrived on B5 demanding the rogues to be turned over to the Corps, Lochley was ready to comply, but under Sheridan's orders bought them 60 more days of freedom. This borrowed time had not yet ran out when Byron's followers were again in trouble. When a telekinetic was assaulted by mundanes, the telepaths revenged violently despite Byron's wishes. Slowly Byron began losing his power over the others, but one of the few who remained loyal to him was his lover Lyta Alexander. From Lyta Byron found out about the Vorlon influence on human telepathy and enraged by this began a campaign for a homeworld for telepaths. He gave his followers orders to spy on the ambassadors on the station and then tried to black-mail the Interstellar Alliance. Unfortunately the plan backfired and resulted only more violence, and eventually Sheridan was forced to take back his promise of protection. When the station security came to arrest the telepaths, the group split into two: those who were still following Byron walled themselves into the Brown sector while the others began wrecking havoc on the station. After the telepaths behind terrorist activity took hostages, Byron tried one more time to end it all peacefully, but failed as he was forced to shoot a fellow telepath who had been about to kill one of the hostages. He then had no choice but to free the hostages and promise to surrender with the terrorists in exchange for safe passage away from the station for the innocent telepaths. Bester, still carrying a grudge against Byron, refused to accept this as none of the telepaths would be turned over to the Psi Corps (even the telepaths guilty of terrorism would surrender to B5, not to the Corps) and ordered his troops to arrest Byron and his followers when they surrendered. As a result some of the telepaths again resorted to violence. After a firefight Byron decided that he could not live with his conscience and so he and some of his followers committed suicide by igniting the explosive chemicals that had leaked during the fight. Still, Byron's legacy lived on. Lyta took his place as the leader of the rogues and, against Byron's ideals, encouraged and even organised attacks against the Psi Corps. In the name of Byron the telepaths terrorized the Corps and this eventually led to the so-called Telepath Crisis. Episodes: 089, 091-092, 094-095, 097-099 |

William EdgarsWilliam Edgars, one of the wealthiest men on Mars and owner of the largest pharmaceutical research complex on the planet was rarely seen in public. Behind the philanthropic facade of his industries he funded several illegal and immoral projects from a virus that kills only telepaths to the search for eternal life. After Lise Hampton divorced her first husband Edgars took her under his wings and their May-December romance eventually led to a marriage. When the Psi Corps started gaining power under the rule of President Clark, Edgars became worried and put aside resources to find a way to eliminate this threat to mundanes. Eventually he found a way - he would infect all telepaths with a deadly virus that had no effect on non-telepaths. The disease would require constant medication, and since Edgars' company would be the only one able manufacture it, he would have control over the telepaths. With the help of Michael Garibaldi (whom he had hired even though he knew that the man had a past with Lise) Edgars calmed Clark down by having the resistance leader John Sheridan turned over to Earth. The next stage of his plan was to release the virus into Earth's atmosphere. The telepaths were saved by the fact that Garibaldi had all along been brainwashed to work for Bester, and revealed the plans to the Psi Corps. No sooner had Bester heard about Edgars' plans than he had his troops storm into the millionaire's house and kill everyone present. Edgars' virus ended up in Psi Corps' hands and his fortune and company in Lise's. Episodes: 078, 080, 082-083 |

Morgan William ClarkVice-President Clark, who had been illegally endorsed by the Psi Corps during his campaign, accompanied President Luis Santiago on his goodwill tour of the Solar System in December 2258. He left EarthForce 1 in the middle of the tour, however, claiming to have caught a very bad cold. Less than twenty-four hours later EF1 was destroyed, President Santiago was killed and Clark became the new president. His ascension to power had not been a mere unfortunate accident, though - he had organised the destruction of EF1 with the help of Mr. Morden and the Shadows. After being sworn in Clark immediately began to strengthen his grip on power, putting his people in key positions and creating organizations like the ministries of peace and truth. All resistance was rooted out by the Nightwatch. One of Clark's first actions was also replacing Commander Sinclair (favoured by the Minbari) with Captain Sheridan (a hero of the Earth-Minbari War) as the commander of Babylon 5. The main reason for this change of command was to diminish the power the Minbari had on B5, but Clark also believed that he could control the war-hero Sheridan better than Sinclair who had often been accused of disobeying orders. What Clark didn't know was that Sheridan was already working for a faction within EarthForce that was determined to prove Clark's involvement with Santiago's death. In 2260 Sheridan and his allies were able to come forth with solid evidence. The President replied to these allegations by declaring Martial Law and dismantling the senate before it had time to object. This left Clark as the dictator of an almost totalitarian Earth Alliance. He also turned over all security outside Earth to Nightwatch and turned ISN into his own propaganda machine. When Mars refused to obey, he gave the order to bomb civilian targets. As a protest to these unconstitutional acts Babylon 5, Orion 3 and Proxima 7 seceded from the Earth Alliance and declared independence. During the initial chaos Clark did manage to score one victory when his forces killed General Hague, leader of the resistance, but his attempts to retake the resisting outposts failed. With Hague gone, Sheridan took over leading the resistance. Clark attempted to defeat him not only with force, but also with propaganda, making ISN portray the Captain as a mere puppet for the Minbari and other aliens. When this didn't work, Clark became almost obsessed with Sheridan - while the resistance on Earth had to stay undercover, Sheridan could operate publicly and thus was able to make most damage to Clark's agendas. It wasn't until late 2261 that Clark was able to revenge - after being betrayed by his former chief of security Michael Garibaldi, Sheridan was turned over to Clark, incarcerated, tortured and interrogated. Nevertheless, it was Sheridan who got the proverbial last laugh. After being freed by his allies, he started the final assault against Clark's forces. With large part of EarthForce and several alien government behind him, Sheridan had hardly any trouble in crippling the ships that were defending Earth. Realising his defeat the insane President made one last attempt to keep Earth from falling into alien hands and turned the planetary defense systems against Earth itself. To avoid arrest he then shot himself in the head with a PPG. It was only the co-operation of Clark's forces, the resistance and the alien governments that saved Earth from total annihilation. MordenMorden was born May 25th 2223 in Summit, New Jersey. He studied in Michican State University earning a PhD in archeology and specializing in archeolinguistics. After graduation he went to work for New Technologies Division of EarthForce. He married in 2248 and two years later their first and only daughter Sarah was born. In all, he was a very happy man. Morden's luck came to an end in May 2256 when both his wife and his daughter were killed in a terrorist attack near Io. He buried his grief to work and joined the crew of the research vessel Icarus, funded by Interplanetary Expeditions and bound for a distant Rim world. Unaware that the planet (which, as Morden eventually learned, was called Z'ha'dum) was not deserted like they assumed, but inhabited by the ancient and bloodthirsty Shadows, the crew of Icarus began their explorations there. They learned the truth soon enough, though, as the Shadows started capturing and killing them. For a while Morden and his friend Anna Sheridan managed to avoid being captured, but not long enough. In the end it was Morden's weakness that sealed their fate - he surrendered to the Shadows willingly after they promised to rejoin him with his family. Their promise was, of course, a lie. Morden, like the rest of the crew of Icarus was declared dead in 2257. He was not dead, though (although most likely fitted with a new personality), but serving the Shadows as their liaison, roaming the galaxy in search of new allies for them. He visited powerful people of all races and creeds offering to make their wishes true in return for their allegiance. He visited techno-mages, telepaths, presidents and ambassadors before finding the perfect ally in Londo Mollari. The first thing he did to gain the ambassador's trust was to return the 'Eye', a historically valuable artifact, back to the Centauri. He then offered the superior military power of the Shadows to Londo's disposal so that the Centauri could defeat their long-time enemy, the Narn. With the help of his 'associates' Morden helped both Londo and the Centauri back to their former glory asking only small favours in return. In 2260 the deal Morden had made with Londo was off for a few months because Londo had began to worry about the Shadows' motives and wanted nothing to do with them. The Shadows saw in Londo a potential too great to be wasted and so Morden had to persuade the ambassador to return to their side. He allied himself with Londo's former ally and current nemesis Lord Refa and then framed him for the death of Londo's lover (whom Morden himself had had killed). Wanting nothing but revenge for his lover's death Londo returned to Morden and the Shadows. Morden's fall began in late 2260. He was on Z'ha'dum when two revenge-seeking men, John Sheridan and Galen arrived there. When Sheridan, unaware that he had been aided by Galen, destroyed the Shadow base with two fusion bombs, the techno-mage decided to rescue Morden and shielded him with his powers during the explosion. Still, Morden was seriously wounded and in the end it was Lorien who had to heal him. Galen had rescued Morden in the hope that he would abandon his masters, but that hoped had been in vain. Although badly burned, Morden soon returned to his 'duties' and travelled to Centauri Prime to ask Emperor Cartagia to allow the Shadows to form a base on the planet. Unfortunately soon after this the Vorlons began destroying Shadow bases and Londo was forced to take drastic actions to save his homeworld. Londo, who now was aware of how Morden had betrayed him, decided to rid the planet of all Shadow influence - including Morden. Londo had Morden killed and his head was displayed on a pike in the gardens of the imperial palace. Morden returned among the living one more time during the Brakiri Day of the Dead in 2262 when he appeared to Lennier to warn the young Ranger of his impending death. Anna SheridanIn 2249, soon after the Earth-Minbari War, Anna married John Sheridan, the brother of her long-time friend Elizabeth. Their marriage was a happy one, though their careers did force them to spend much of their time away from each other. While John pursued a military career, Anna finished a doctoracy in xenoarcheology and worked as a freelancer for Interplanetary Expeditions. In 2256, just months before her and John's seventh anniversary, Anna stumbled across an ancient biomechanical alien artifact that seemed to respond to telepathy. Her discovery lead to an expedition to a Rim world which, as they later found out, was called Z'ha'dum. What she didn't know was that the planet was in fact the homeworld of the Shadows and that Earth and IPX had been aware of this ancient race already for some time. Cancelling the plans she and John had made for their anniversary, Anna joined the crew of Icarus, the ship sent to explore Z'ha'dum. Problems began soon after Icarus landed. People began to disappear and die and eventually Anna and another member of the crew, Dr. Morden, discovered the horrifying secret of Z'ha'dum. Anna tried to fight the Shadows, to avoid being enslaved even at the price of death, but in the end she too was forced to serve. Anna was fitted into a shadow vessel, to act as its central processing system, while the world and her husband assumed she was dead. Years later, in 2260, as John and Delenn were organizing an attack against the Shadows, Anna's masters realised her value as a weapon. She was taken out of 'the machine' and sent to Babylon 5 to persuade her husband to change sides. The Anna who arrived to B5 was not the same one who had married John ten years earlier; she had the same DNA, same voice and even the same memories, but her personality had been destroyed and what was left was merely an imitation of her. The new Anna could not fool John (or Doctor Franklin who discovered in Anna the tell-tale signs of shadow implants) and even though he did follow her to Z'ha'dum, he brought with him two 500 megaton thermonuclear detonations as a precaution. In the end he used them to destroy a major Shadow city and both he and Anna were killed. Episodes: 024, 065-066 |
